I actually think one avenue for their coming apart might not be Hextech at all, but be the Zaun/Piltover split. Viktor will be hurt and angry, and will 'betray' Jayce by starting to recruit Zaunites for the cause, which could lead to fighting and war. Something may go wrong, and Viktor will become fused with the Hexcore in some way, making him a slave. Going against Viktor's own will would be 'betraying' him. So, my theory is that Viktor gets seriously injured during the explosion, and Jayce will try to cure Viktor using the Hexcore, despite him pleading Jayce to destroy it. Now, according to lore, we know Viktor is>! a sort of 'leader' in the advancement in technology.!< Many people theorise that Viktor will become a symbol of the Hexcore in its mission to take over, which I think could happen. Later on in episode ep6 I think, Jayce is talking to Mel about how Viktor is 'like a brother'. In the end they eventually end up betraying each other (Vander decides to stop fighting for the cause and Silco kills Vander).
